Weekly perspectives: mysteries of Ignite 2024
Drilling into three interesting themes picked out from Microsoft's messages presented on the virtual stages of Ignite.
This is the launch of my Weekly perspectives series! 𼳠These regular updates are a Perspectives Plus subscriber benefit going forward. To give everyone an idea of what type of content I plan to make available as this newsletter evolves, this first round goes out to also the free subscribers. Thanks for being here! đ
Donât worry - there will also be free newsletter issues in the future. I aim to keep sharing my thoughts and insights with the global Power Platform community that has made it possible for me to do what I do over the past couple of decades. In addition to perspectives.plus, you can expect to see my Microsoft themed content on LinkedIn and more recently on Bluesky.
Some people ask me âhow do I have time for posting all the insights I share?â The simple answer is: I choose to spend time on it - instead of working on something else. If you want to show support for the work that goes into my research and writing needed for the posts, please consider if a Plus subscription would be valuable for you. Much appreciated! đ
The less-than-obvious bits of Ignite 2024
By now youâve most likely seen many social posts sharing the exciting news that Microsoftâs product marketing organization published during the week of Ignite. Nothing wrong with that. After all, events like this are about building up excitement around where Microsoftâs technology is heading towards.
Me, Iâm always more interested in reading between the lines. Analyzing what is being said vs. what I can validate with my own eyes. đ§ Figuring out what it means when something is not said. Connecting the message into the greater context. Exploring the real world beyond the happy path of demo scripts.
In the past week Iâve gone through loads of Ignite session recordings, downloading decks, reading MS announcement blog posts. Snooping on the MS Learn documentation updates via Git commits. (Yes, I actually do crazy stuff like that.)
Based on everything Iâve seen so far, I decided to put together a Mysteries of Ignite 2024 deck and talk about it. View the recording below from YouTube:
On the list of topics I cover are:
đĄď¸ The ever more managed Power Platform
Governance and admin related changes launched at Ignite. Whatâs really new & what is just a new way to show the old stuff?
đ¤ Copilot Control System
What exactly is in this âsystemâ that was mentioned many times on the grand keynote stage?
đŽ The future of apps
If everyone will have a personal AI assistant that works together with multiple agents, why do we need any more apps?
Check out the YouTube video for my thoughts on these three mysteries.
